Long Term Care Townhall in Sydney

A meeting to discuss the future of long-term care in Cape Breton was held at the Grand Lake Road fire hall on Wednesday.

The meeting, hosted by Advocates for the Care of the Elderly, Nova Scotia Health Coalition and Families for Quality Eldercare, focused on the lack of public, affordable and quality long-term and residential-care beds for Cape Breton.

About 40 people attended the meeting, which featured speakers including Dr. Jeanne Ferguson, Norma Silverstein (Families for Quality Eldercare) and Chris Parsons (Nova Scotia Health Coalition).

The two-hour meeting featured presentations by the speakers and was followed by questions from those in attendance about the issues facing long-term care facilities on the island.
